The Redwood Region Audubon Society and trip leader Janelle Chojnacki will present “Bikes, Birds and Brews” Tuesday, Sept. 5, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. This month’s outing will start and end at The Local Cider Bar in Arcata.

Everyone will meet across the street on the sidewalk in front of the North Coast Co-op and hop on their bikes to ride around Arcata’s V Street Loop looking for grassland songbirds and shorebirds and raptors hunting in the area. The ride will be smooth and slow. Everyone will be returning to The Local Cider Bar close to sunset, so bike lights are encouraged.

The Bureau of Land Management will conduct a free guided hike on the Salmon Pass Trail in Headwaters Forest Reserve Sept. 10 starting at 10 a.m.

Join BLM Docent Susan Halpin for a program titled “Signs and Secrets of the Redwood Forest.” This hike will be moderately strenuous.

Make a reservation (space is limited) to participate at https://www.blm.gov/programs/national-conservation-lands/california/headwaters-forest-reserve or phone 707-825-2300.

A dance featuring live music and a “great floor” takes place every Monday from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Moose Lodge, 4328 Campton Road, Eureka. Admission is $9.

“The Future of Hydrogen in Humboldt County and Beyond” is the title of a presentation to be given by Peter Lehman at 7 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Humboldt Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 24 Fellowship Way, Bayside.

Lehman is the founder and former director of the Schatz Energy Research Center at Cal Poly Humboldt. Among the issues he will discuss are current plans for the introduction of zero-emission, hydrogen buses and fueling infrastructure in Eureka and the role of hydrogen technology in greening the transportation sector in the U.S.

The event is free of charge, and light refreshments will be provided.
